Cracked the TCS Assistant System Engineer Interview – By Priyankit Bharadwaj
Landing your dream IT job can be a nerve-wracking experience, especially with a competitive company like TCS. But fear not, fellow job seekers! Here, I’ll share my experience cracking the TCS Assistant System Engineer interview process in 2015. This guide will unveil the different rounds, the types of questions asked, and some valuable tips to help you ace your own TCS interview.
Who am I?
I’m Priyankit Bharadwaj, and in 2015, I successfully navigated the TCS Assistant System Engineer interview process. This article details my experience, providing insights for anyone aiming for a similar role at TCS.
The TCS Interview Process
TCS employs a multi-round interview process to assess candidates comprehensively. My experience involved three distinct rounds:
- Round 1: National Qualifier Test (NQT): This online test evaluates your basic aptitude, logical reasoning, and English language skills. Brush up on these areas using online resources and practice online aptitude tests to excel in this round.
- Round 2: Technical Interview: This round delves deeper into your technical knowledge and problem-solving skills. Be prepared to answer questions related to your academic background, projects, and fundamental programming concepts (if applicable).
- Round 3: HR & Managerial Round: This final round assesses your soft skills, communication abilities, and overall suitability for the role and company culture. Be prepared to showcase your teamwork abilities, willingness to learn, and passion for the IT industry.
National Qualifier Test (NQT) for TCS
I utilized online resources like Naukri Campus to practice logical reasoning questions and aptitude questions. Additionally, I focused on brushing up on my English grammar and vocabulary.
The NQT was a timed online test with multiple-choice questions. It wasn’t excessively difficult, but staying calm and managing time effectively was crucial.
Technical Interview For TCS Placement
I thoroughly reviewed my academic curriculum, focusing on core computer science concepts like data structures, algorithms, and operating systems. Additionally, I revisited my projects, refreshing my understanding of the technologies and problem-solving approaches used.
The technical interview was conducted by a panel with a mix of technical and HR personnel. They started with basic technical questions about my education and then delved into technical aspects. I was also presented with a scenario-based problem to assess my analytical skills. Here are some example questions they might ask:
- Explain the difference between linked lists and arrays.
- Describe the OSI model of networking.
- Walk us through a project you’ve worked on.
- How would you approach troubleshooting a software issue?
HR & Managerial Round
I researched TCS’s work culture and core values. I also prepared answers to common HR interview questions like “Why TCS?” and “What are your strengths?“
This round focused on understanding my personality, work ethic, and cultural fit within TCS. The interviewers also discussed the role expectations and the typical work environment. Here are some questions they asked:
- Tell us about a time you faced a challenge and how you overcame it.
- What are your salary expectations?
- Why are you interested in working at TCS?
- Do you have any questions for us?
After a few days of waiting, I received the fantastic news – I was selected for the Assistant System Engineer role at TCS! This entire process, from the NQT to the final interview, was a valuable learning experience.
