ICICI Bank (Industrial Credit and Investment Corporation of India) is one of India’s largest and most respected private sector banks. Established in 1994, it offers a wide range of banking and financial services to individuals, businesses, and corporates. The bank operates a strong network of branches across India and a global presence in countries like the UK, Canada, and Singapore.

ICICI Bank is known for its focus on innovation, customer-centricity, and digital banking transformation. It was among the first Indian banks to adopt digital banking and continues to lead with products like iMobile, internet banking, and AI-driven customer solutions.

The bank’s core values include integrity, excellence, customer focus, and transparency. It places a strong emphasis on employee development, making it an ideal place for freshers looking to build a rewarding career in the banking and financial services sector.

ICICI Bank Interview Experience of Fresher

ICICI Bank is one of the leading banks in India, and it offers a variety of career opportunities for freshers. The interview process for freshers at ICICI Bank is typically divided into three rounds:

  • Career Test: The purpose of the career test in the first round is to evaluate your aptitude for a career in banking. The exam covers a wide range of topics, such as logical thinking, verbal reasoning, and mathematical reasoning.
  • Technical Interview: The objective of the technical interview in the second round is to gauge your technical problem-solving skills and understanding of the banking sector. You’ll be questioned during the interview about your educational history, banking software experience, and problem-solving abilities.
  • HR Interview: The third phase consists of an HR interview to evaluate your soft skills, including leadership, teamwork, and communication. The interviewer will enquire about your professional background, your objectives, and your compatibility with the company’s culture.

In this article, I will share my experience of the interview process for freshers at ICICI Bank. I will also provide some tips on how to prepare for the interview and how to answer common interview questions.

ICICI Bank Career Test

The ICICI Bank’s career test for freshers is a 60-minute exam with three sections- verbal reasoning, logical reasoning, and quantitative reasoning. The test is computer-based, and you will have to answer 60 questions in total.

Math, algebra, and geometry are all included in the test’s quantitative reasoning component. The verbal reasoning portion of the exam includes questions on vocabulary, grammar, and reading comprehension. Problem-solving and critical thinking are two themes that are covered in the test’s logical reasoning part.

The career test was difficult but fair in my opinion. I studied the fundamental ideas in arithmetic, English, and logical thinking as I prepared for the exam. I also took several NCAT practice tests online.

Common ICICI Bank Interview Questions

Here’s a list of 10 frequently asked ICICI Bank interview questions for the role of Deputy Manager:

What is working capital, and why is it important?

Working capital is the difference between current assets and current liabilities. It indicates a company’s short-term liquidity and operational efficiency. Positive working capital ensures a business can meet its short-term obligations and continue day-to-day operations smoothly.

How do you assess the working capital needs of a client?

I assess the client’s business model, inventory cycle, receivables, payables, and seasonal trends. I also analyze financial statements, cash flow patterns, and industry benchmarks to recommend appropriate working capital limits.

What are the key financial ratios you use to evaluate a client’s creditworthiness?

Key ratios include the current ratio, quick ratio, debt-to-equity ratio, interest coverage ratio, and inventory turnover ratio. These help evaluate liquidity, leverage, and operational efficiency.

How is working capital finance structured at ICICI Bank?

ICICI Bank offers working capital finance through fund-based (cash credit, overdraft, WCDL) and non-fund-based (LC, bank guarantee) products. Structuring is based on client requirements, credit assessment, and regulatory norms.

Explain the difference between cash credit and overdraft.

Cash credit is a loan facility based on the borrower’s inventory and receivables, typically for business use. Overdraft is linked to a current account and allows withdrawals beyond the available balance, usually with a fixed limit and interest on utilized amount.

What’s your approach to risk management in working capital lending?

I follow a thorough due diligence process—analyzing financials, conducting site visits, evaluating industry risk, ensuring adequate collateral, and setting appropriate covenants to mitigate default risks.

How do you handle a client with deteriorating cash flows?

I proactively engage with the client to understand the root cause, suggest financial restructuring if required, and work with credit and risk teams to monitor and control exposure while supporting recovery.

What documents are typically required for sanctioning a working capital facility?

Documents include audited financials (3 years), bank statements, GST returns, KYC, projected cash flows, CMA data, and stock & debtor statements.

How do you stay updated with RBI guidelines and financial regulations?

I regularly refer to RBI circulars, financial news portals, internal policy updates, and attend compliance or credit workshops conducted by the bank.

Why do you want to work in the Working Capital division at ICICI Bank?

Working Capital finance is a critical growth enabler for businesses. ICICI Bank’s strong portfolio, innovative solutions, and customer-centric approach align with my passion for delivering tailored financial services that drive business growth.

Technical Interview Experience at ICICI Bank

A panel of two or three interviewers normally conducts the technical interview for fresh graduates at ICICI Bank. You will be questioned during the interview about your educational background, prior experience with banking software, and problem-solving abilities.

They inquired about my expertise with Java, my undergraduate degree in computer science, and my aptitude for solving technical issues. My understanding of the financial sector was something the interviewers were also interested in.

The technical interview questions were difficult but not overpowering, in my opinion. I over my computer science education and worked on my problem-solving techniques in order to get ready for the interview. Additionally, I did some research into the financial sector.
